NKA Universitas Pécs finished the EuroCup Women regular season in 7th place overall, advancing to the Round of 32 as the third-best group winner. While it initially seemed that Thursday night would finally determine our opponent in the next stage, a sudden power outage prevented the decisive game from being completed.
With the group phase wrapped up, Zeljko Djokic’s team secured its place in the knockout stage, finishing 7th in the overall ranking, the third-strongest record among all group winners. As a seeded team, NKA Universitas Pécs will host the second leg of the Round of 32 matchup. The first game is expected to be played on December 10 or 11, while the second leg is scheduled for December 17 or 18.
The potential opponents were to be decided by the BDS Dinamo Sassari vs. KP Brno matchup, but the game ended in highly unusual fashion. According to the various scenarios, a one-point Sassari win would have meant KP Brno as our opponent; a larger Sassari victory would have paired us with GEAS Sesto San Giovanni; while a Brno win would have brought Lointek Gernika Bizkaia.
However, with 3:23 remaining and Sassari leading by two, the arena was plunged into complete darkness due to a power outage. The game was immediately suspended and could not be resumed that night, leaving the identity of NKA Universitas Pécs’s opponent still unknown.
Our club will provide an update as soon as FIBA makes an official decision regarding the incomplete match and finalizes the Round of 32 pairings.
